Audio CD's.. No Sound..

Hello

I do have a problem listening to Audio CD's only. The sound card is perfectly detected and I am able to listen to all stored MP3's, all streaming audio with XMMS, stored avi's with Xine.. All seems OK except audio CD's. When using any player, KDE CD player, XMMS.. The audio CDs run fine, player counter progresses, track names are shown but.. NO Sound as if it is muted while in fact it is not. Please be informed that I am using KDE 3.3 GUI and XMMS output plugins setting ONLY works on aRTs and ALSA.

Help ?? :)

analog CD playpack

you're probably using analog CD playback (your drive acts as an audio CD player) and the cable running to your sound card for this is unplugged

either plug that in or use digital playback (decoded by computer) instead. it's in the settings for most players

also make sure you don't just have the "CD" channel on your sound card muted

CD anlogue cable is plugged..

Hello.. The cable is connected to the souncard and the CD channel in the mixer is not muted. In fact, I forgot to say that audio CD's work fine on another distro I have on my machine as check. The problem is only with MEPIS. Help ?? Thanks

Check Digital

As Uniball suggested, try to switch the CD playing mode to digital.

xmms -> options --> prefs --> output plugins --> (check all CD plugins and switch output to digital)

Works Now !!

Hello..

Wow.. The Audio CD's now work on XMMS after setting the playing mode to digital. I am not sure what to do with a player that has no such setting like KsCD, but Hey.. who cares, XMMS works fine and I am HAPPY :)

THANK YOU :)
