Meeting the Washington DC LUG

YoussefAssad's picture

I'll be attending the meeting of the LUG based in Washington DC on the 15th of March.

I'll be telling them a little about EGLUG and Linux in Egypt, and just seeing how they do things (apart from meeting some nice fellow Linux people).

So, first of all a quick little solicitation for proposals; does anyone have any ideas for ways we can use the fact that I'm there?

Secondly, if anyone has any objections to me representing EGLUG there please comment below.

Thanks!

Ideas :

In the medical student's scientific society I used to be a member of, we had collaberations with our counterparts in other countries.

I can identify a resemblance in this situation. So I'll try to apply what we did there.

  • First we want to know what activities they carry out there and compare them to what we do. If we are missing something they tell us how to do it. If they are missing something we tell them how we do it.
  • Then we want to start to see the possibilities of coordinating an event with them. A joint confrence, like the DEFCON/HACKON suggested in another thread.
  • We used to have student exchange, we could do LUE ( linux user exchange ). We send people to meet them ( like Youssef ), and they send people to meet us, exchange expertise and ideas.
  • I know some lugs have mailing lists, we could organize joint mailing lists to consolidate expertise, and maybe publish a joint lug journal.

I just realized that some of the ideas here, could be done on a local level even if we don't cooperate with any lugs. I have some more ideas that are not related to this thread so I will post them elsewhere.
