well this is really just a way to inform everyone that I'm safe, all internet cafes in accra are proxied and firewalled, I can't ssh, vnc or even IRC (sucks)

IRC Web proxy
You probably know about CGI:IRC, it acts as an IRC/Web gateway. The problem is that most sites running it only allow you to connect to specific networks and sometimes specific channel. Here's one that allows you to choose the network and channel.

I had the same problem with the proxy in UAE. You should have setup a tunneling server at your home gateway.

the public proxy newcomer found works like a charm, and besides accra's most populr intrnet cafe has ssh ports open (they even have ssh clients installed) so I can use erc from home.
