Strange!

I thought that volunteers should post here, Not to contact via mail ??

I'm not also sure whether senior users should ask people to contact info@eglug.org, I thought that when someone is asking something they might by answered like that, But not when organizing something, And I should that since you are asking people to contact anyone for a conference organized by mengos the email should be info@mengos.net NOT info@eglug.org

Also, Since when do we organise things that way ? everything should be OPEN to the cmmunity and organized on the website not via info@eglug, This is returning us to the dark ages IMHO.

speakers should contact by email

> we need speakers for the first 2 days, so if u can do a presentation or know someone who can, plz contact us

speakers CAN contact by email, this is not for volunteers, this would be more convenient for most candidate speakers.

I mean if you know someone who might want to present at the conference then you can tell them send an email to info@eglug.org which is probably easier than teeling them register and post a comment on eglug.

besides nothing in the post says you should send an email, it says contact us, contact us i a link to the email, but if you contact US in anyother manner thats fine.

not really

at the moment we're just trying to collect people to contact.

I think we should set up a wiki for the event and start real planning, time is very tight afterall.

the moment the folks at Center For Knowledge Society book a place they should start sending invitation letters.

but if you've got any ideas itching you now please share

some answers

the format is to have

  • panels on the first day (meaning people will take about generic issues not particular technologies).
  • technicl presentation on the second day (this is stuff done on a projector with a speaker and people sittin down, it should be about useful tech, stuff like drupal and SQL ledger certainly has a place here, but remember only 4 hours in the second day).
  • 3rd day will have handson presentations done for small groups gathered around a table.

the topics for the 1st day are fixed in stone more or less the 2nd day they're negotiable but IMO the topics chosen are the ones that make most sense for the theme of the conference (FOSS and development)

the 3rd day is not fixed at all, each company is free to present what it wants, and is expected to advertise its services and products, EGLUG volunteers should present other tools, solutions and techs.

keep the excellent ideas coming

BTW folks do you think we should setup a proper wiki to organize this, or is the drupal book module good enough for now?

Many minor problems. A better CMS should be installed, if you asked me.

hossam if you think we need a better CMS in general please post about it on the forum since this is not related to this topic.

the question at hand is if we need a seperate wiki for organizing major events.

Designs

Whirlpool has promissed to design the covers for the 2 cds that we'll be distributing, which are: the OSS cd for windows and Knoppix 3.7 live cd.

He'll also update the t-shirt design for the EGLUG volunteers.

thx whirlpool :-)

People start commiting

time is precious and it's ticking away.

I am interested in :

2nd day : Arabic related FOSS. I think the best candidate to lead this one is Uniball, with all his great experience on the subject. He has other thoughts and refused to commit to it on the IRC.

3rd day : The developers part. OneOfOne and I came up with the idea of how the opensource model allowed people to make patches for the kernel, some of which are really great for desktop performance. He too refused to commit.

3rd day : Phaeronix session , if anyone is interested. manal suggested this. I am all for it but don't think I am selfish or anything.

I hope Uniball and OneOfOne take up these tasks and I'll help.

I don't think that I'm that brave to stand u and give a speech/presentatin while I don't know all of the people ;-)

BTW: I assume since there are no updates that there are no speakers for the 1st 2 days ? Or am I wrong ?

How are you supposed to know

How are you supposed to know all the people when it's a confrence.

Did you know all the people in the install fest?

and if you prepare a good start for your presentation, it's gonna flow easily for the rest of the time. Just put your tongue where your heart is..

alaa, manal.. any updates on the status?

is there no wiki for this?

MSameer's picture

Well, I didn't give a present

Well, I didn't give a presentation in the install fest.

And It seems that I won't be giving this year too !

Well, I don't think I can stretch my tongue to reach my heart position !

There are speakers

yes there are speakers for the 1st day, but the list is not final yet, I'll post about a more fixed list of speakers tomorrow.

Updates

Whirlpool will have the cd faces ready Monday morning, I'll go to burn them Monday evening and they'll be ready by wednesday.

I need to know a lot of stuff:

  • who are the volunteers for the conference, I know some of you will attend the conference representing their companies, but I need to know who will attend as EGLUG volunteers because we need to prepare the t-shirts.
  • I think we should prepare a small pamphlet about what is FOSS and what is Linux (with the knowledge that the main target group of the conference are NGOs)
  • What's the state of the open cd translation, does it need revising?
  • we need to update the EGLUG about page and mention the activities and projects that we were involved/attended lately.
  • Who is doing what on the 2nd day?
  • what are the demonstrations that we'll do on the third day, we'll be able to have computers (maximum 10), and the hall will be opened all the day, so whoever is doing a demo can come earlier and setup/configure whatever they'll do.
  • What else?

DJ KING's picture

Manal , i would really like

Manal , i would really like to help .. just let me know how can i help so i get ready .. it doesnt matter , even if you need me to help people finding seats :) but if you need something technical , please let me know so i can read or get my self ready to present something
