Session outline:

  • OSI Network layers skimming
  • DoD (TCP) layers:
    • Process (application process):ftp, smtp, pop3, telnet, ssh, etc.
    • Host to Host (TCP,UDP,..):
      • ports analogy
        • TCP/UDP 0-1023 well known
        • TCP/UDP 1024-49151 registered
        • TCP/UDP 49152-65535 dynamic/private
      • Connection establishement: SYN, SYN/ACK, ACK
    • Internet (network layer, addressing IP):
      • IP addressing
      • Subbnetting, classes, etc.
    • Network access (compare with OSI layer 1,2)
      • Data link
      • Physical
  • Application commands (arp,ifconfig,ip,route..)
  • Network devices

few minutes of practical application

can you quickly cover what is DNS?

can you also quickly cover how to setup the various TCP/IP parameters as in ifconfig, route, /etc.resolv.conf, pppd etc.

and finally is it overkill to mention QoS, concepts of firewalls and routers, typical network hardware like switches etc.
