I have ES2839/2839 superlink modem - it doesn't support linux but I have found a page in the net solving the problem. It's entitled "Modem ESS Technology ES2838/2839 SuperLink Modem installation" I have mandrake 10.0 I don't know whether this will work with me or not - please visit the link here to understant and advise Regards,

I think it'll work
b. Kernel 2.4.18 or higher.
To know your installed gcc:
To know your installed kernel:
or
I guess that u'll suffer alot
I guess that u'll suffer alot to get that peice of hardware working under Linux .. as it doesnt work with gcc 3.x and kernels compiled with it and AFAIK that kernel 2.6 is compiled with gcc 3.* ... Suggestion : u can buy a NetoDragon modem that uses the SmartLink driver that fully supports Linux and it will only cost u 55 LE .. or maybe less
Best is to try
It's always best to create the perfect environment for the test. Fist compile a vanilla ( downloaded from kernel.org no pateches ) kernel with the standard options you need.
Then start by trying to follow the steps described in the mentioned article.
I suggest confirming the origins of each script and minimising the commands executed as root.
If all this is too much for you, maybe you can get the computer with the modem to elsakia and we will try there.
In the end I hope it works because I can then add the driver to phaeronix :)
I wish I could install phaeronix on my patients.
won't work
no it will not work for mandrake 10.
you ill need to install an older version of GCC and an older version of the kernel (both fundemental system components and not easy to configure r install).
personally I'd forget about it and buy a new modem.
cheers,
