Dear Friends I need help connecting computers ( Ubuntu 8.04 ) using a crossover cable,no internet, just a local network. I did connect them using Windows, so I feel shame, please I need a the most simple way to accomplish this mission. Thanks in advance H

How do you get them both to work within windows using the crossover cable?
Presumably adding a static IP address on both machines on the same subnet. Also, the value for the default gateway should be the same on both machines.
Either add your manual network configuration via Ubuntu network manager tool or command line via ifconfig
