xubuntu, usb stick, and me :helllp!

shortly after i installed xubuntu on my pc, i wanted to try the usb stick i have in order to connect wirelessly with the internet.. next, the pc asked me for the password..

do ISPs present such a password to its users in order to connect to the net?

Clarification!

please clarify the _wireless_ technology your USB stick is using. (ex. WiFi, G3.x, etc...) Also if you would be kind enough to provide us with the underlining protocol you are using to authenticate with your ISP.

What's your network?

Yes there are passwords made by the 3G networks operators (I assume you are talking 3G). Anyway these passwords are per operator (i.e one password for all vodafone users, one for mobinil, ... etc).

Tell me your operator please

Vodafone, 3G

my mobile operator is vodafone, the usb modem is 3g vodafone mobile broadband, the modem is hawawyi (as i dont remember the spelling)..this 99 LE one..

by the way, my linux os is xubuntu 9.04

Vodafone connection info

number: *99#

username: internet

password: internet

APN: internet.vodafone.net

Compression: Allow BSD, Deflate data compression, and allow TCP header compression

I'm not sure how to use these in xubuntu though, in ubuntu you just choose the operator you don't enter all these number.

It would be a good idea to have a wiki page for the instruction. and maybe people can contribute their knowledge about the issue with the other operators. (I think mobinil doesn't required a user name and password, I'm not sure of this! but for sure it need another apn... )

I've checked an old

I've checked an old configuration in my gnome-ppp config, and I've found this: username: aloweb password: aloweb phone: *99#

and you have to add in init strings Init 3 : Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","aloweb"

This was for connecting my mobile to the net, which is mobinil with aloweb subscription.
