reconfiguring net settings each time i restart

i am using static ip and i should reconfigure my network settings each time i restart could u help me?

can you say what distro are you using? how to you reconfigure the network settings (using gui or conf files)? etc

my distribution is ubuntu 8 ;i think; i got it from a session of linux from few days i installed the network from network connection (gui) islam mahrous
