TEData Migration

Mohammed Ahmed's picture

Dear All I have bad news

I think number of us know that TEData run it servers on RHEL.

Lately they migrated to ..

* Windows Server® 2003—operating system.

* Active Directory® services—identity management.

* Microsoft System Management Server 2003—software distribution, remote assistance, and automated software updates.

* Microsoft Operations Management Server 2005—complete support system.

* Microsoft Office SharePoint® Portal Server 2003—communications and collaboration.

* Windows® Rights Management Services (RMS)—helps control and protect digital information.

also microsoft CRM

I think Eng: Ahmed hussien said many times they saved money by using open source..

what you think about that decision....

it's the business

Unfortunately the business/corporate environment is hard, it's not what's most ethical nor the most technically advanced solution that wins, actually it seems that it NEVER wins, other lame factors (politics, marketing, finance, etc..) have their call in this situation.

You don't know what's really behind this agreement and who paid for it to take place, but I can smell some marketoids behind it, soon we'll all see who's the loser...

Now the question is; shall the people from the FLOSS world apply the dirty market tricks or stay the way they are watching FLOSS gain momentum by itself, which is a fact nowadays. So long and thanks for all the fish.

TE Data is capitalizing

TE Data is capitalizing almost 50% of the ISP market share, it doesn't make any sense from system administration perspective to migrate to Sharepoint or right management bla bla.

Yes, there is a case study on TE Data website stating M$ fud, this *may* be true; it could be on one of the departments or company internal services.

But if you are talking about the main ISP business; this isn't true, definite.

QUOTE

It decided to seek an addition to its Linux-based e-mail messaging system.. --

TE Data Enterprise employees are experiencing an enhanced level of service at multiple levels with improved collaboration and directory services. Operations have improved, making it easier for managers to take a single view of the systems and to ensure zero downtime. Customers no longer share the same mailbox server as in-house staff, which is helping TE Data provide customised Web services to its own employees.

Migration Provides Platform for Enterprise Level E-Mail Services The migration of the collaboration platform to Exchange Server 2003 with Active Directory for identity management and SharePoint Portal Server for communications and collaboration is helping to reinforce the market leading reputation of TE Data.

The company’s portfolio of services covers the communication needs of consumers, small and medium enterprises, large corporations, and ISPs. The integration features between the Microsoft technologies have created an environment in which TE Data can offer enterprise-level services for e-mail messaging to a rapidly expanding marketplace.

Separate Customer Mailboxes Aid Value-Added Services Customers and TE Data staff no longer share the same communication and collaboration server, which ensures that services can be customised effectively for both sides of the house. Raed Mounir, MIS Director, TE Data, says: “Corporate e-mail migration helps us to enlarge our employee mailboxes according to a separate e-mail policy, giving us greater flexibility and scalability in our operations. We have doubled the size of our storage capacity with Exchange Server 2003 compared to the previous system. The separation is helping us to give rich Web interfaces for our corporate customers and more value-added services.”

Improved Operations Ensure Zero Downtime for Managers Senior managers at TE Data are confident that their embedded business partnership with Microsoft and successful trial of the architecture will ensure that the business performs at optimum levels.

“When we took the decision to migrate from the previous open source system, we needed to be sure that customer service and business performance would not be affected,” says Mounir. “By moving to a Microsoft environment, we are reaping the benefits of the richness of the platform. We also have the peace of mind of working with an IT infrastructure that supports business critical processes and can be project managed effectively. These are important considerations for a service provider requiring zero downtime.”

I wish if any one from TEData clear it, i remember we had several TEData admins at linux-egypt

Best Regards

The statement that you

The statement that you have copied is clear, it reads employees are; which means it's for their internal systems, not the isp business, because we are customers not employees.

The FUD is clear

news are true, what's really behind that is a global M$ campaign where they hopelessly deliver the message; look Ma', our systems are not afraid of Linux

Turns out that they now are really threatened and they can't hide it.

..and don't believe the FUD

Update

Speakin' of reliability, some links in the above url are broken ;) So long and thanks for all the fish.
