Hello
I have just installed Dapper on my machine and I wonder why there is a difficulty in playing some media files even with Totem (being a default) I have installed XMMS and can only play mp3's. As for .wmv, .avi, .mpg etc... they all do not work claiming that the necessary decoder is not installed or a there's a missing plugin
Now, technically speaking, put my questions in points for clarity
1. What is the difference between a decoder and a plugin??
2. If the media claims the there is a plugin missing, it does not mention its name, I do not know which plugin (or decoder. ehh. ) I should look for on Synaptic to install ??
3. Where is mplayer and Xine?? Should I add more repositories here?? well this was not the case on Breezy though, so what happened ??
Your detailed explantation is appreciated..
Thanks a lot
read the docs https://help.ubuntu.com/ubu
it's also worth adding that MPlayer was never in official repos. (dunno about Xine)
Ubuntu's "Magic" !!
Thanks for the reply, the link definitely answers my questions. However, I have been looking around until someone gifted me something from the giant Ubuntuforums. " A GENIE LAMP ". "Just ask whatever you want, Master". I'll ask everything, what the heck.. !!!
There you go..
Just a word of advice; Answer YES if you are asked to revert to your original sources.list if you really want to retain it. However, Automatix does add many other repositories (or mirrors) that might be even better .
Just like driving a Ferrari on a free highway, Autmatix kicks Ubuntu, the Cadillac of all distros, into a very high gear.
Enjoy !!!
OK Now you're getting it
j/k. You know I can't resist replying to anything that contains the F* word... hahahaha (Ferrari)
&&
and for more repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list
