Hi

I have so many installed packages on my machine DO NOT appear as Installed or even marked as Needs Upgrade on Synaptic. For example I do have XMMS and xpdf etc.. installed, but they appear as totally uninstalled (blank mark) on synaptic. and if I mark them for install, they do install as if it is the first time. They are definitely installed for sure, I work with them all the time.

Any knowledge why my installed packages appear as if the are not installed on Synaptic.. And, if I do install them, am I duplicating something.. I really appreciate your detailed explanation

Regarding the duplicates thing, Dont worry .. it wont install the package twice, It just re-installs it.
