Linspire has been freed ... Freespire

  • From Freespire.org :

"Freespire is a community-driven, Linux-based operating system that combines the best that free, open source software has to offer(community driven, freely distributed, open source code, etc.), but also provides users the choice of including proprietary codecs, drivers and applications as they see fit. With Freespire, the choice is yours as to what software is installed on your computer, with no limitations or restrictions placed on that choice. How you choose to maximize the performance of your computer is entirely up to you."

They say that there will be A copy of Freespire that contains only the open software with no licence-restricted software - like drivers and codecs- and the other one will have them in it's default installation. And IMHO it looks like more companies are adobting Novel with thier new approch which is supporting a subproject that is fully developed and maintained by the FOSS developers. Will there Be more companies to come ? God Only Knows.

Right now, there is only thier forum and the downloadable ISOs are not yet there to test. AFAIK they haven't mentioned or gave aproximate day for the first beta release of thsi new Freespire.

Me myself after all what I have heared about Linspire I am looking forward to see these ISO.s and give it a try.

May be, May be not.

Well may be Redhat Enterprise Linux and Fedore sounds like that but CVirus, some history please:

Redhat Enterprise was commercial, while there was RedHat for public and now what they have done was to make RedHat looking like she dropped something new Fedora. Didn't RedHat gave the community something they already had it?

Honestly I haven't used Fedora but Redhat 8 and 9 was in like 5 CDs, right ? In the other hand There was Novel's SuSE with ( O.N.E ) CD to demonstrate thier main COMMERCIAL distro, never was like RedHat (Fedora now),Mandrake or Debian, full pack for free while you get " Few Extras" when getting the commercial" and thier technical support ... etc. .**wink**.

Hopefully you have got my point.
