Problem with playing an AVI video file on Redhat Enterprise 4

Dear all, slamo alikom. I'm having a problem with playing an AVI video file on Redhat Enterprise 4. I tried the Helix Player that comes with the Distro. but It asked for udate and when I downloaded the update, both the .bin and the rpm, it didnt work giving me this line "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

So I need any player, working one, that I can download, easily, to play my AVI files and RM as well.

BTW, I am a literally newbie user. ThanX and God bless

hmmm usually codec

hmmm usually codec problems are solved by installing extra packages mad by the community and not by the distribution's vendor.

but I don't know of any community made packages for RedHat Enterprise, I doubt you'll find many desktop users using it.

anyone knows where we can find mplayer rpms for RHE4?

besara7a keda RH is not a good choice for a newbie aslan; but these are matters of taste and flamewars.

Uninstall Helix Player

AFAIK you should uninstall Helix player before you install real player because it interferes with real player

Uninistall helix player using:

reinstall real player or run your *.bin file

No idea if it works with *.AVI or NOT but you can give it a try and feedback ( if it works )

BTW, Mplayer & Xine both support *.AVI try to google for a suitable rpm for your RHEL 4 or give me awhile for getting you the appropriate package

It works

At least it works without error ..

Tested myself and it plays real media ( rm ) and mp3 content

Maybe you need to put a standard for pluggable codecs / extensions

did you install from rpms

did you install from rpms or compile?

I think distros tend to package mplayer gui interface as a seperate package yes, in case you compiled it it takes an extra ./configure option to enable the graphical interface.

>There is only one thing

>There is only one thing that there is no graphical controls for this player

If you need to play windows codecs , real ,divx ... etc

In terminal

  1. tar xjvf essential-20050412.tar.bz2
  2. mkdir /usr/local/lib/win32
  3. mv essential-20050412/* /usr/local/lib/win32
