How to begin an open source comunity......

Hi linux geeks. There is an open source comunity that is arranged to be opened in the faculty of engineering .Alex university. and it may be appointed to me. so i was wondering, about some articles that i can read that prepares me to introduce open source world to freshmates in the open source world. like ... what is the benefit of this comunity? what are the activities that may be done? things like this... ie. I am seeking the help from the people who started eglug itself to help me. By the way this open source comunity will be under the supervision of the ACM "Association for Computer Machienary". plz help. salam
