Hrmmm...

After the roaring success of my blog entry explaining how to optimslly utilize the motorola winmodem, perhaps I should write a uS Robotics tutorial...

(no, I'm not linking to my Motorola tutorial from here. Don't feel like getting told off again by upstanding community members... too early in the frickin morning for that...)

isa pnp

ok let me get this straight so the modem jumper settings are correct and windows recognises the modem and is able to use it?

in that case its probably just an isa_pnp issue, configuring isa devices on Linux wasn't exactly a piece of cake.

tab3an decent distros just do this for you, I set up 4 isa modems before and it was all done behind my back, I'll try to look at configs of these machines when I get a chance (they're not my boxes), but you better start looking for an ISA PNP howto or something.

ISA PNP ----> setserial?

The thing is, that is eams all what i need to do is use setserial for this, so i belive my question for now is how do i set up a serial modem.

in reply to alaa: yes it is set and runs correctly under windows

got Slack? get counted

you sure its setserial?

what port is your modem using under windows?

what IRQ is using (according to jumper settings?)

you don't need to mess with set serial unless you're trying to use ports higher than ttyS3 (com port 4) or a non standard IRQ setup.

I always setup isa modem on ttyS2.

try the setserial man page though its quite good.

cheers, Alaa
