in almost all our activities we distribute LiveCDs, livecds are great tools of advocacy.
there are problems with arabic support in all mainstream livecds, the arabeyes livecd project arrabix is stalled, anyone knows anything about the other arabic livecds?
would be nice to have an EGLUG themed CD with artwork done by EGLUG members, with docs about eglug etc.
about phaeronix
after the move to a mainstream distro as base (gentoo) and a mainstream desktop (gnome), phaeronix is now a very user friendly livecd. and it seems it will be easy to modify and extend the distro, and should be fairly easy for others to join the project.
phaeronix incorporates the latest knoppix hardware detection code, phaeron assured me its easy to keep uptodate with knoppix, this means we get the benefits of wide hardware testing done by knoppix.
phaeron is eglug's hardware support guru, he tested the distro on all sorts of peculiar hardware and wastes no oppertunity to test on more, he wrote many hacks for hardware support and promised to contribute back any modifications to knoppix codebase.
phaeron spends a great amount of time working on phaeronix, he discusses decisions with other eglug members and seeks their opinion all the time, by relying on phaeronix we have easy access to The Man so rapidly producing customizaztions should be fairly easy (just as we tend to rely on mandrake for courses becuase of my ability to rapidly customize installation cds).
finally
a live cd is made of butter yetla3 3aleih el sob7 yesi7, its a decision that can be reveresed anytime since livecds get updated every month of two anyway.
so I support we use phaeronix at the very least it makes for an example of an active project and it might inspire others to participate more or insite a feeling of national pride.

remove all non FOSS code except for device drivers
include the three working arabeyes projects (duali, katoob, bicon)
ask mohamed youssef if we should bundle quran project
include what eglug members consider to be best of breed desktop apps (we can keep a wiki page of these)
include all FOSS arabic fonts
test arabic support
the arabic linux book by Linux-Egypt's Error_Msg
EGLUG video productions (excluding ho2a.avi) :-)
arabeyes wordlist in some usable form (runa local dict server maybe or use stardict).
disable any installer you might have
apart from these we'll want to have a customized eglug useraccount, with eglug theme, wallpaper, bookmarks, eglug pamphlets, some eglug docs, maybe arabeyes pamphlets and docs.

thanks alaa
I am really flattered by all your comments, although I hope this one doesn't "yesi7".
what we need IMO
apart from these we'll want to have a customized eglug useraccount, with eglug theme, wallpaper, bookmarks, eglug pamphlets, some eglug docs, maybe arabeyes pamphlets and docs.

* You saw my legality quest,
gentoo + beginner not a good idea
but what you could do is keep the scripts but don't advertise them.
ya3ni for one to know about the scripts one should read the phaeronix website masalan.
also make sure the script warns people in a very scarry language that installing is not for the faint of heart.
all IMO of course lets see what others think

Agreed
I was thinking on the same lines, I will remove the menu item, but keep the script, and there is already such a warning in the first message.
