On wednesday I had the opportunity of working on a Sun Ultrasparc quad processor workstation. Each processor clocked 400Mhz and the machine had 256 Mb of RAM. Solaris 8 was the operating system running on it. Its age was four years, however it looked brand new.
After a while I got oriented with the weirdness of the keyboard and the filesystem layout, and the clumsiness of CDE. My knowledge of Linux helped a lot, and I was quickly comfortable with the command line.
The machine had been sitting there all that time, working as a gateway for a large LAN of about 100 PCs. Solaris came with apache installed, but no PHP and no MySQL. The guy responsible for it was asked to host a website on it, but he didn't know how to install the software.
The guy freaked when I suggested installing linux, as I knew it worked on the SPARC arch. So I had to do with solaris.
I discovered there was a package management system in solaris not unlike debian's apt. So pkginfo, pkgadd, pkgrm etc..
There I learned of pkg-get which is analogus to apt-get. so I did : pkg-get install php mysql
I also downloaded a solaris package of webmin, but it was getting late, so I left.

slooooowlaris
Slowlaris is a pun , because solaris runs so slow, while linux flies on the same machine.
even the last version "10" didn't do good on my x86 machine.
fun
:D Slowlaris ,sorry
Linux flies on SPARC "this is a good news :) "
The wrong make the wrong because it can not find the true to tell him the true.
