Dear all,
Karl Berry has shown interest in hosting TUG 2001 in Egypt.
We only need a short proposal for the TUG board to review with these factors considered:
- Dates:
- The field is very open to whatever works best for Egypt (Cairo/Alex).
- Travel:
- Accessibility by air. Typical prices from USA + Europe?
- Accommodations:
- Attendees' approximate cost for a room?
- Are there other places to stay nearby that are cheaper/fancier than the conference facility?
- If a hotel, can a block of rooms be reserved for the conference at a special rate?
- Wireless Internet available at zero or reasonable cost?
- Conference facilities:
- Approximate conference fee for attendees? (Discount for user group members, please.)
- Transportation from hotel to venue?
- Technical: beamer, a/v, wireless Internet, plenty of power?
- Food for breaks, lunch; vegetarian options? (A few people always want this.)
- Extras:
- Banquet: possible locations? Approximate cost for attendees?
- Local organizations that might be significant sponsors?
- Local typography-related resources which attendees could visit, or perhaps even a tour arranged.
Again, these are only some of the factors to be considered, and I am sure there might be some points that are unclear, so feel free to ask of course. This is not final by any means. If things went well, I will be working with you on co-ordination and financial.
There is no great hurry in pulling this together from our point of view.
