The workshop was for 3 days from 9 a.m to 4 p.m each day in RITSC in Zamalek. It was aimed for Human Rights and Development NGOs members and it discussed the following issues:

  1. What do you use the internet for?
  2. Explaining some Technical expressions (server, domain, etc.)
  3. Browsers (there exist other browsers apart from IE)
  4. Searching the net and Search engines
  5. Case studies of projects done using the internet
  6. Free Software and GNU\Linux (computer doesn't equal windows)
  7. Communication tools on the internet and Netiquette
  8. Security and privacy
  9. Who owns the internet and about ICANN
  10. WSIS World Summit on Information Society

The participants were very interested to learn about all this, they asked smart questions and experimented on their PCs at the lab and at home.

Dr. Marlyn Tadros gave all the sessions except for the session on Free Software and GNU\Linux, in which she invited EGLUG to do it.

Alaa and Ramez.hanna gave the session, it was on the 2nd day of the workshop. The session was supposed to be a brief overview on the history of free software, then the participants would play for sometime with the GNU\Linux live cd on their PCs and Alaa and Ramez will show them around the GNU\Linux desktop, then a Q&A session.

Unfortunately, only 5 PCs of the 15 in the RITSC lab had cdroms and 2 of these 5 refused to boot from the cd. So the hands on part was cancelled and Dr. Marlyn's labtop was connected to the projector to show the mandrake desktop. At the end of the session Alaa and Ramez distributed Morphix live cds to all the participants.

The report in arabic will be added later.
