Imagine running the following apps:
- konqueror (with 14 tabs open)
- Akregator
- X-Chat
- Juk (playing music)
- Konsole (with 2 tabs open)
- KGet
- KEdit (Writing this text while eglug.org was down)
How much RAM should be consumed? The correct answer is 160 MB. My extensively tweaked (for performance) Windows installation on the same machine consumes 160 MB with nothing running at all!
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not the Gnome/KDE kind of guy. I used XFCE and blackbox on my old machine.
But KDE seems to be going to the right direction and I'll be using it from now on.
